From 11 September 2011 to 22 January 2012, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will present nul = 0. dutch avant-garde in an international context, 1961 - 1966.
nul = 0 is the first comprehensive overview in the Netherlands of work by members of the Nul-group and international kindred spirits since 1965. Work of Dutch Nul-artists – Armando, Jan Henderikse, Henk Peeters, Jan Schoonhoven and herman de vries – will be displayed in relation to artists from the German ZERO, the French Nouveau Réalisme, the Italian Azimuth and the Japanese Gutai movements in the time period 1961-1966. Total installations, utopian models, historical objects, reconstructions, authentic films and photos will show the unique history of an unparalleled international avant-garde. An exceptional aspect will be the attention devoted to the unrealized but legendary Nul-manifestation called Zero op Zee (Zero at Sea).
