Alex van Warmerdam
Exhibition. Paintings, film, theatre
14 february - 24 may 2010

From 14 February to 24 May 2010, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will present the first major exhibition of work by the multitalented Alex van Warmerdam. New scenographies for movie fragments, images from theatre performances, posters, photographs and scale models will be combined with paintings, drawings, graphics, texts and wall paintings made on the premises. In four monumental rooms, the exhibition gives an insight in the artist's world of thought, brimming with morbid humour and absurdist twists.

Collectionpresentation Art after 1945
14 february 2010 - 12 april 2011

In 2010, the Schiedam Municipal Museum will present its Collection of Post-war Art. Starting point for this exhibition will be the new collection plan for Dutch Art after 1945. In this plan, the emphasis will be on the relationships between the core art collections. From the viewpoint of present-day art, a connection is made with NUL and CoBrA in five themes: War, Animals, Matter, Travel, Rhythm & Regularity.
The concept of the exhibition has been elaborated in conjunction with eleven final-year pupils of Schiedam Municipal Grammar School, acting as assistant curators. Along with the museum director, they selected the works, wrote the texts and came up with innovative ideas for the design and set-up of the exhibition.

The exhibition will show around sixty paintings, assemblies and ‘modifications’ from the past five decades. The comprehensive selection, with an emphasis on his recent work, visualizes both the diversity and the coherence in this oeuvre. Lucassen has been working for almost fifty years on a unique and incomparable visual language and, in doing so, occupies an important position within the Dutch art world.

Unisono 21: Serge Game.
Totally Together
13 december 2009 - 14 march 2010

From 13 December 2009 to 14 March 2010, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will organize the exhibition entitled Unisono 21: Serge Game. Totally Together. In the colourful paintings, the artist combines large, expanding, flowing forms and amorphous structures. The large-scale paintings that Game has made in the past four years evoke a world with a type of reality that we seem to know, like the one we can perceive through a microscope. The paintings become accessible through the broad gesture, but also invite the viewer to examine them in much closer detail. A strong spatial effect is created due to the alternating use of mat and glossy paint, large shapes combined with smaller ones, and the contrast of the amorphous background. Serge Game lives and works in Rotterdam.
